Why are NDEs so different yet so alike? Venezuelan journalist AJ Parr connects the enigma of their contracting nature with the diversity found in religions, emphasizing a common factor at play.

In 1991, AJ had a spontaneous NDE-like experience in which he merged with the Light and into Oneness. Driven by lucid dreams, multiple STEs, and a compelling desire to comprehend what had taken place, he began a 30-year comparative religion study and authored over 20 books on the ancient roots of religion and the illusory nature of verbal thinking. More recently, upon recognizing the parallels between his encounter with the Light and certain near-death accounts, he conducted a series of journalistic interviews that allowed him to pinpoint at least nine commonalities of Heavenly NDEs, as reported in his book, Stairway to Heaven: 25 Near-Death Experiences About Encounters with God, Jesus, and Paradise (Journalistic Research on Real Cases).

His latest conclusion is that mystical experiences, including NDEs, are inevitably affected by what he calls the “Tower of Babel Syndrome,” which unconsciously shapes our spiritual experiences via cultural and Jungian archetypical filters capable of modeling our perception of the higher or spiritual dimensions, thus making each experience so different yet so alike.
