Ma’rifa: Learning to Live What You Know

What happens when an extraordinary experience changes your understanding of yourself, love, and reality, but you still have to return home and live an ordinary human life?

In After the Awakening, Leena Zafary shares her near-death experience and subsequent spiritually transformative experiences, followed by the twelve-year journey of searching, questioning, and integrating what she experienced across the intellectual, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and deeply human layers of herself.

Through an East-West lens, Leena explores Ma’rifa, knowing through direct experience, and what it means to embody what we come to know. Her story moves from extraordinary experience into ordinary life, exploring connection, free will, belonging, and coherence. Ultimately, her invitation extends beyond NDEs and STEs: we do not need an extraordinary experience to begin listening inward, meeting ourselves, and living more consciously.

Leena Zafary is an Afghan American author, speaker, BioAcoustic practitioner, and founder of MBS Alignment Center and IANDS Las Vegas. Her near-death experience in 2014 and subsequent spiritually transformative experiences began a twelve-year exploration of consciousness, human connection, and what it means to integrate extraordinary experiences into ordinary life.

Born in Kabul and raised in the West, Leena brings an East-West, cross-cultural perspective to conversations about spirituality, identity, coherence, and the human experience. She is the author of LIKE! The New L Word, which explores “like” as a simple but often overlooked doorway to self-discovery and conscious choice.
